The GPF looked for defensive and offensive weaponry after The Silence. With existing weapons (and especially ammunition) a dwindling stock, the GPF turned to effective, but older tech. A propulsion engineer named Bernard Armstrong and his colleagues often had lunch room debates about what new tech could be used to update the weapons of the World Wars. Bernard's favorite topic was how to create modern drones out of the original drone bomb: the German V1 Rocket. The original V1s used two types of fuel: one to launch it off the launcher, one to fly it once aloft. The good thing is that the flying fuel is easy to create in the post-Silence world. But the launch fuel isn't. So Bernard volunteered with the GPF as an weapons designer and together they built the V1-mk2, launched with a steam catapult and a flown with the same 1944 fuel.
