Terms and Conditions

Not yet reviewed by a lawyer

Not yet reviewed by a lawyer. We wrote these in plain language on purpose, and we'll update them when a real attorney has gone through them.

The short version

Here's the deal in plain words. You must be 13 or older to have an account. Everything you build and photograph stays yours. By posting it here, you give us permission to show it on the site and in Registry materials, always with your name on it. The Longlight world itself belongs to us, but we license it openly: you can build in it, write in it, and share what you make for free, as long as you credit the world and don't sell what you make. If you want to sell something Longlight, ask us first. Be honest about your work, be decent to other members, and we can all go build things. That's the spirit. The full terms below are the actual agreement.

1 — Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or filing a build or story on this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site. That's the whole mechanism, there's no signature.

2 — Age

You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. Builders under 13 may participate through a parent or guardian's account, with that adult responsible for the account.

3 — Your work stays yours

You keep full ownership of every model you build, every photo you take, and every story you write. Filing them here does not transfer ownership to us, ever.

4 — The license you give us

When you file something, you grant the Longlight Registry a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display your photos, stories, and build details on this site and in Registry publications and promotion, in print and online. Non-exclusive means you can still do anything you want with your own work anywhere else. We will always credit you by your surveyor name. This license lasts as long as your filing is on the site. If you delete a filing, we stop using it going forward, though it may still appear in things already printed or published.

5 — Our license to you: building in the Longlight world

The Longlight world, including its setting, history, factions, and terminology, belongs to the Longlight founders. We share it under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). In plain terms, you may build, write, film, print, and share anything set in this world, for free, forever, as long as you do three things. Credit the world by name. Don't sell what you make. And share your additions under these same terms so others can build on them too.

6 — Commercial use

If you want to sell anything based on Longlight, such as kits, prints, decals, terrain, books, or merchandise, you need a direct license from us first. Write to us and ask. We built this world to be affordable to play in, and that includes being reasonable about licensing, but selling without asking is a violation of these terms and of copyright.

7 — Names and marks

The names Longlight, the Registry, and our logos and marks stay our property and are not covered by the open license above. Use them to refer to the world and the site, which is normal and fine, but don't use them to brand your own products or to suggest we endorse something we don't.

8 — Honesty and conduct

File only your own work, describe it truthfully, and follow the Registry Survey Standards. Treat other members with plain respect. No harassment, no hate, no stolen work.

9 — Moderation

We may hold, mark, hide, or remove any filing or account that breaks these terms or the Standards. Struck filings keep their serial number as a record, but may be hidden from public view. We'll be human about it and explain when we act.

10 — Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account. You may close it at any time, and you may ask for your filings to be removed.

11 — No warranty

The site is provided as is. We're two modelers running a community, not a corporation with a service guarantee. We'll do our best to keep the site running and your records safe, but we can't promise the site will always be available or error-free, and we're not liable for losses that come from using it.

12 — Changes

These terms may change as the Registry grows. If we make a meaningful change, we'll announce it on the site, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms.

13 — Contact
